Introduction to Space-making

How do people see and experience space?
Humans are object-oriented people. From an early age, we are taught to identify and describe objects. Yet, the design professions compose spaces. Environmental designers must transcend objects to perceive space as a whole substance to be created.
-
What guides design of three-dimensional space?
Designers rely on abstraction of ideas to guide design. And not just abstraction, but a graphic abstraction - the partí - that forms the big idea to inform future design decisions. This big idea is difficult to generate, often either taken too literally or too abstract to be of use.

How does one design in three-dimensions well?
If space is so difficult o perceive (and design), what is the best way to do this? This class offers students a chance to use model-making - in foam-core, clay and chipboard - to explore design ideas. Students practice craft, or the skilled creation of a model.
Make it stand out.
It all begins with an idea. Maybe you want to launch a business. Maybe you want to turn a hobby into something more. Or maybe you have a creative project to share with the world. Whatever it is, the way you tell your story online can make all the difference.
